The app you use to complain that an app is too slow.
means A software program that lets you access, navigate, and display content on the World Wide Web.
from From 'web,' short for World Wide Web (itself named by its inventor in the late 1980s for the tangled, interlinked structure of hyperlinked documents), and 'browser,' an older English word for one who looks over things casually — grazing cattle 'browse' on leaves, and 19th-century readers 'browsed' through library shelves or bookshop stacks without committing to any one volume. Early software that let users flip through files or databases without altering them borrowed this same word well before the Web existed. When the first graphical programs for exploring hyperlinked pages appeared in the early 1990s, 'browser' was already sitting there, ready-made for aimless, low-commitment wandering — which is, after all, exactly what you do online.

- Chrome ate rivals, then its own privacy reputation
- tab hoarding
- Users keep hundreds open as digital security blankets
- engine monopoly
- Most browsers wear Chromium underneath a different mask
